The actress has been tapped as the spokesmodel for the new Gucci Bamboo scent. To represent the new Gucci Bamboo fragrance — a heady mix of sandalwood, Tahitian vanilla, orange blossom and ylang-ylang that’s empowering and sexy — the Italian fashion house turned to the new Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot. But the Israeli up-and-comer doesn’t just play the superheroine in the forthcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman), she seems to be one in real life. According to Style.com, she performed her own stunts, jumping from a moving motorbike to a Jeep, in Fast 6. And, while she’s a former Miss Israel, she trained male soldiers in the Israeli army, drives a Ducati, works out with CrossFit and TRX, paddleboards, and can do a muscle-up. Christie Marston is the granddaughter of Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston. When asked what her late grandfather would have thought about the new Wonder Woman movie, Christie Marston kindly replied that was the wrong question: "It is my grandmother who really matters in the 'what would they think' line of thought.' " Below, Christie Marston remembers her grandmother Elizabeth Holloway Marston, who broke down barriers for women, earned a law degree in 1918, and helped inspire her husband to create the most famous female superhero. My grandmother was the role model for Wonder Woman. She was born in 1893, and instead of doing the more common things associated with women in that day and age, she went on to get three degrees and happily marched her way through her hundred years proving that gender roles were ... just plain silly! Always positive, always moving forward, never letting obstacles decide her life for her. Gram and Wonder Woman have always been … [Read more...] about My Grandmother Was the Real-Life Wonder Woman (Guest Column)

Greetings, people of Earth. This is the beginning of a regular column wherein I will discuss the history/evolution behind various costumes and designs in superhero comics and other fun media. I’ll also be throwing in my own opinions, which you can take or leave since we all have different tastes. To kick things off, I thought it would be fun to talk about a lady first introduced in 1941: Wonder Woman AKA Diana Prince AKA Princess Diana of Themyscira, the Paradise Island. We now know for sure that Gal Gadot will be playing her in the as-yet-untitled sequel to Man of Steel that really seems like it should be titled Hey, We’re Almost the Justice League. There’s a lot of debate going on about how Wonder Woman should be portrayed. So to add food for thought, this column looks at how the amazing Amazon has been portrayed in live-action shows, with a couple of honorable mentions from comics and animation. And before you ask, I will be focusing on officially licensed stories. … [Read more...] about Agent of S.T.Y.L.E.: Wonder Woman in Television
Wonder Woman just keeps getting cooler and cooler. In the current installment of Sensation Comics, a DC digital-first Wonder Woman anthology series, Wonder Woman officiates a same-sex wedding between two women. Raise your hand if this surprises you. Zero? Zero hands raised? Yeah, that’s what I figured. In the current story out today, written and drawn by Jason Badower, Wonder Woman officiates the wedding of a woman she worked with while helping in New Orleans after Katrina and in Haiti. Then Clark Kent proceeds to ask the stupidest thing ever, and Wonder Woman schools him while smiling and shaking her head at him the way you likely will as you read it. Here’s the page in question:RIGHT?! A country completely inhabited by women, Clark! What did you think was happening? Awww. Stay gold, Clark. Stay gold.In addition to all of this, the current installment of Sensation Comics features Wonder Woman explaining the misconceptions about the colors in her costume and acting as the … [Read more...] about Wonder Woman Officiates Same-Sex Wedding, Schools Clark Kent, Becomes Even More Awesome in

The idea of Wonder Woman not being heterosexual is not new, especially in recent years, with writer Greg Rucka confirming 100% that the Amazons of Themyscira have same sex relationships in the comics, but it’s also not something Warner Bros. allowed her theatrical debut to really get into. That’s not exactly surprising, but that doesn’t make it less disappointing, and fans are trying to get something done about it.Over on Change.org, there’s a petition for the studio to rectify that in future films, which has garnered nearly 3,000 signatures since being posted. Gianna Collier-Pitts, the petition’s author and a GLAAD campus ambassador, notes that Wonder Woman was “a success for everyone … except the bisexual community.” She goes on to explain that it’s so important to make Diana’s sexuality explicit specifically because bisexuality is so often misunderstood and even written off as nonexistent. She writes, … [Read more...] about Petition for Warner Bros. to Acknowledge Wonder Woman’s Bisexuality Nails Why It’s So Important
DC recently announced a Wonder Woman prequel series that will explore the history of the Amazons, which sounds pretty sweet. Less sweet is the fact that a female comics creator pitched a Wonder Woman prequel series a while back, never heard a response about it, only to hear the news that one was not only happening, but that it was happening based on a pitch from a male writer.According to io9, DC announced a new series “called The Odyssey of the Amazons, set in Amazonian society years before the birth of Wonder Woman” that will follow them as they venture away from Themiscyra and out into the world, fighting mythological monsters along the way. It will be written by Underworld creator, Kevin Grevioux, who plans to “tie the origins of the Amazons in with powerful warrior women across different cultures.”In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: We were looking at the great epic poems, like the Iliad, Jason and the Argonauts — what if we … [Read more...] about Wonder Woman’s Amazons Finally Getting An Origin of Their Own — How Much Does Who Creates It Matter?
