Watching the initial coverage from the three big networks on Thursday night in the wake of President Donald Trump’s latest reported comments was, in full honesty, a bit nauseating. For as many justifiable reactions to the president’s comments about Haiti, El Salvador and Africa as there were Thursday night — somehow — chyrons pondering “Is President Trump a Racist?” were still popping up on networks. While the meat of those segments with this heading largely suggested that he in fact is racist, any chyron reading that should have lasted about five-seconds. Yes, Trump is not only very much a racist (as Don Lemon went on to forcefully point to Friday night) but he is a powerful avatar for racists in this country and has been since he began his campaign.Usually, hesitation from the media in terms of negative branding a public official like this is courteous and warranted. Scarlet lettering notable figures should never be seen as virtuous or the goal of … [Read more...] about Why is The Media Still Asking if President Donald Trump is Racist?

The Washington Post obtained the transcripts of President Donald Trump’s first calls with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull — and published them in full Thursday morning. The bonkers calls with two foreign leaders were reported on at the time, but the extent of the insanity contained in the conversations, held in January shortly after Trump’s inauguration, is only now evident thanks to leaks of the full transcripts. And so, presenting the craziest moments from Trump’s leaked call with Pena Nieto: 1. Trump calls New Hampshire a “drug infested den”.In a back-and-forth about the drug trade across the Southern border, Trump told Pena Nieto he wants to stop illegal immigration, citing the “drug lords in Mexico that are knocking the hell out of our country.”Trump also says “I won New Hampshire because New Hampshire is a drug-infested den,” before offering Pena Nieto help with his … [Read more...] about New Hampshire is a ‘Drug Infested Den’ … And Other Moments From Donald Trump’s Call With Mexico
Donald Trump has a special announcement set for June 16. And he’s got an official-looking website complete with campaign slogans and a donation option. While it’s hard to know whether to take anything seriously with Trump (for all we know, the June 16 event could just reveal a new season of Celebrity Apprentice), we have begun preparing ourselves for the possibility of a Trump 2016 campaign. The prospect is so tantalizing even Jon Stewart is rethinking retirement; and comedians everywhere are likely lining up to fill the campaign’s treasure trove. The thought got us wondering: Besides the promise of a golf course in every home and all-out war with Mexico, China, and Iran, what would a Trump presidency look like? More importantly, who would be in his cabinet?Ultimately, we imagine, it would be like Trump taking all his best friends to the White House for a big ol’ game of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Here’s what we came up with:President Donald TrumpVice … [Read more...] about What Would a Donald Trump Presidency Look Like?
The mainstream media has been buzzing all day about what a huge political victory Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump scored with his “presidential” and “strong” visit to Mexico, and subsequent joint press conference with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. The liberal blogosphere has also been abuzz about Trump’s joint presser, but not in quite such a kind fashion, noting that Trump appears to have used bobby pins to keep his famous combover in place. Apparently, several Twitter users noticed Trump’s little helpers during the presser, and tweeted out still frames. Here’s some close-up video from that presser, in which the hairpins can clearly be seen:Here’s a still-frame from that video, so you can see it better:Trump has often made a show of proving that his hair is real, that it is his own, but even casual Trump observers can see that his unusual coif doesn’t bespeak a hairpiece, but a hairdo combed … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Had Visible Bobby Pins Holding His Hair Still at Mexico Press Conference
We all know this has been a substance-less presidential campaign between two people with long and colorful careers in the public spotlight. Thanks to this endless campaign and the twenty four-hour news cycle of the modern age, you would think that everything important about each of them would be fully reported by this point. However, partly because, especially in this highly fragmented era, it is not what gets reported that matters, but that which is REPEATED that wins the day. There are many stories about each candidate which have not received nearly the attention they deserve. Here are the ten most underreported stories about Donald Trump, in no particular order, based on the ratio of coverage received to how damaging the story could have been to him. Tomorrow, I intend put out the same list for Hillary Clinton.1) John Miller and John Barron. Donald Trump era is that he radically alters most of the old rules and upends the majority of the traditional alliances within our political warfare. There’s no better example of how true that really is than Meryl Streep’s controversial acceptance speech at the Golden Globes in which she torched Trump while urging vigilance among the press to stand up to him and his coming presidency. In the “olden” days (2015), when a member of the Hollywood elite would inappropriately take time from a live televised speech, which had nothing to do with politics, to attack a prominent Republican, we would pretty much all know exactly which battle station to report to and it would be highly predictable how the ensuing culture war would go down. But now, at least for me, there is no strong sense of clarity as to how to respond. After all, when you no longer know if the Russians are the good guys, or if our own CIA are the bad guys, it shouldn’t be surprising when … [Read more...] about Meryl Streep’s Takedown of Donald Trump Was a Little Bit of Everything
In the glow of South Florida, President Trump kissed the ring of wealthy GOP donors Friday night, pleading with them to inject the RNC with enough cash to win a 60-seat, fillibuster-proof Senate majority.“I need you guys to step up and overwhelm them,” Trump said at the RNC’s spring retreat, according to POLITICO.So, essentially, Trump, who successfully railed against Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, and the rest of the political puppets who work for their donors instead of the American people, is, in fact, the puppet master.I’d say this would be a telling revelation if it wasn’t so predictable.A billionaire, gift-wrapped a million-dollar loan from his daddy, making billions off of his bravado and salesmanship (and later his name), promising the fine blue-collar working people of the Midwest that he will be the savior they’ve been waiting for.It was a fantasy Trump expertly conjured up. And aided by the pathetically weak Democratic Party and fellow … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s Hoodwinking Of Working Class People Now Complete
